The CHI 2007 question dealt with the promotion of public transportation and the reduction of greenhouse gas. We started trying to come up with ways to promote public transportation but ended up not finding any unique ways to do this. We also found a lot of resistance to ever using public transportation.

Because of these factors we chose to look at ways to reduce congestion. We came up with the SmartTrip system which allows heads of household, our target group, to organize their errands the most efficient way.

We combined a GPS navigation, list maker and smart phone to come up with the SmartTrip system. The user activates the software and tells it what trips they need to make that day as well as any items they need to purchase. The system organizes their route in the most efficient manner taking into account locations to be visited and traffic conditions.
